Modern Manners with Arminé Tatosian at a delightful wine tasting hosted by Brit Hart at Bricks Wine in Inglewood.

Bricks Wine Company has quickly become one of my favourite wine stores in Calgary. A cursory glance around the shop may lead you to believe that the wine was curated by someone looking for beautiful bottles only. Then you’ll notice that there are pairing suggestions for popular take-out restaurants and you’ll understand that Bricks has its finger on the pulse of our city. One minute after asking Brit Hart, the general manager, for a gift suggestion based on a friends wine preferences and you will have a minimum of five options with varying price points and good reasons to buy all of them. Unpretentious, knowledgeable, welcoming and delightful…that is this wine store in a nutshell.

There are about two events a month hosted in the beautiful tasting room at Bricks. After a few impromptu tastings with Brit, I knew that a formally organized tasting would be a treat. The Modern Manners event, with Arminé Tatosian, offered fresh bread from The Deane House next door, charcuterie from Empire Provisions and cheeses from Say Cheese Fromagerie along with six amazing wine pairings that all wanted to come home with me. The events normally run around $40 a person and I would say it is well worth the cost.

This Chenin Blanc is an off-dry white, sweet and fruity. A universal pairing so it is great to bring as a hostess gift. Bricks Wine Company Domaine Thierry Drouin Saint-Véran La Cote Rotie. This Chardonnay pairs well with foods from the same region. Brit went with a cheese from Burgundy and it was perfection. Bricks Wine Company This Pinot Noir pairs well with turkey or a terrine. Bricks Wine Company 2012 Château Belle-Vue (Haut-Médoc) a cabernet that pairs well with Blue Cheese and Braised Meats. Bricks Wine Company This cream sherry was served with a little mouthful of shortbread topped with an amazing caramel concoction. Bricks Wine Company Cognac to end the evening. Bricks Wine Company

I was graciously invited to this event, but I had a post about the store in the pipeline already. All opinions are my own and now you get some actual pairing suggestions to go along with my heartfelt suggestion that you check out Bricks Wine Company.  If I had the time, I would RSVP to at least one of their events per month, they have some amazing evenings coming up soon! Let me know if you get down to the shop and tell me what you think.
